Stallions Blow Past the Outlaws 8-2 in their Home Opener

Saugerties, N.Y. –  The Saugerties Stallions used an explosive four-run inning to help kick start their offense to an eventual 8-2 victory over the visiting Oneonta Outlaws Sunday night, June 4th, at Cantine Field.

The Stallions had their home opener against the Outlaws. Due to rain, the game’s first pitch was pushed back from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Through the first two innings it was a pitcher’s duel between Oneonta’s Michael White (Stonehill College) and Saugerties’ Nick Alvarado (Illinios State University).  Alvarado started off the game pitching a one-two-three inning.

The third inning is when the Stallions offense first came alive.  The bottom of the third inning started off with Michael White walking the first two Stallions batters. Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth College) then laid down a beautiful bunt on the 1st base line. The throw was low which led to Feinstein advancing to second base and Austin Powell (Arkansas State University) scoring the games first run. The next batter, Matt Forlow (Manhattan College) then hit a bases clearing triple to deep center field. Jack Gonzalez (Stetson University) then had a sacrifice fly to right field. The Stallion tallied up a total of four runs that inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning Matt Forlow had a nice single to center field that only scored one run for the Stalions because of a beautiful hustle play by Brandon Brundage (USC Upstate) saving the ball from going to the wall.

In the top of the fifth inning, Benjamin Dubas (Alverina) ripped the ball down the 1st base line. He had a double, scoring two runs. The stallions 2nd baseman, Connor Moroder (Illinois State University), snagged a ball out of the air from Aron Fried (Quinnipiac University) who poked the ball out there to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, Matt Feinstein made a diving play out in right taking away a base hit from Brendan Brundage, who earlier in the game robbed an extra base hit from Feinstein’s teammate. In the bottom of the inning, Austin Powell (Arkansas State University) hit a stand up double with an RBI

In the top of the ninth inning, Matt Pushard (University of Maine) had a one-two-three inning and ended the game with a strikeout.

The winning pitcher was Jason Antalek (2.2-3 innings pitched, 5 K). The losing pitcher was Michael White.

The Stallions will be playing their next game Monday June 5th , against the Amsterdam Mohawks at 6:30 p.m.
